The Poets Lover is based on a portrait by William Bourguereau - I used her as a model and she doesn't look like his Gabrielle, but she sat still and I wasn't seeking a portrait so much as an overall feeling of a girl in love with her poetic man - words cover her dress and as he speaks of autumn and fall, her hair is a symbol of all things nature; all things beloved to both. The butterfly on her shoulder symbolizes her own freedom, but she elects to stay - she chooses love.
