When I saw this old dilapidated house in an urban street in the north of Sydney, it immediately took my mind back to when I was a child and read "The Day of the Triffids", a novel that I loved.
Not that these ferns are triffids, but to me, they seemed to be engulfing or overtaking this abandoned house.

The Day of the Triffids is a 1951 post-apocalyptic novel by the English science fiction author John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris, under the pen name John Wyndham. It is about a plague of blindness that befalls the entire world, allowing the rise of an aggressive species of plant. Although Wyndham had already published other novels using other pen name combinations drawn from his real name, this was the first novel published as "John Wyndham".
