Description
Time is of the essence when a beautiful red sun like the one in my image, has already descended half way below the earth's horizon. A photographer's delight.
The bands and formation of clouds were so amazing when I captured this image; almost like night and day all in one for those few moments...... and the light penetrating through the clouds was beautiful, forming bright yellow stripes on the red sun.
Sometimes called the golden hour or magic hour...... the first and last hour of sunlight during the day is when a specific photographic effect is achieved due to the quality of the light.
These few very important minutes before the sun descends......... and again a short time after the sun has completely set, is the perfect time of day to capture these amazing sunset colors of blue, purple, red, orange, yellow and many other color combinations depending upon the weather and cloud formation at the time.
When the sun is near or below the horizon, sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere, reducing the intensity of the direct light, so that more of the illumination comes from indirect light from the sky, reducing the lighting ratio. More blue light is scattered, so if the sun is present, its light appears more reddish. In addition, the sun's small angle with the horizon produces longer shadows.
