Description
Homo heidelbergensis fossil foot bones. These reconstructions are based on fossils of male Homo heidelbergensis dating from 500,000 years ago during the Pleistocene. They are based on fossil bones found at the Sima de los Huesos site in the Atapuerca Mountains of northern Spain. The foot structure is much more robust than modern human feet, and also has some characteristics that differentiate it from Neanderthals. Researchers have estimated that this male individual had a height of 173.3 centimetres.
